Recovery Efforts in Humbolt

May 6-7th, 2006 -- STAR 1, in conjunction with Central Iowa Underwater Search and Rescue, spent the weekend looking for a man who went missing in the Des Moines River.

Officials said Michael Mulligan, 50, may have fallen in the water at the Harry Reasoner Dam.

STAR 1 ground searchers worked with local officials and the Humboldt Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT) to search shorelines. STAR 1 canines searched the river to assist in narrowing the search area for divers.

Annual Operations Results 2002-2003

STAR 1 Search and Technical Rescue has finished compiling its mission history for the August 2002 - July 2003 operations period.

During that annual period, the group performed a total of 13 missions totaling 33 days of operations in 11 Iowa and 2 Nebraska counties.

NASAR Certifies STAR 1 Airscent and Trailing Dogs
Release date: May 19, 2003

STAR 1 successfully presented seven K9 teams for certification under the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) K9 SAR Tech III certification. In the first NASAR-provided test in Iowa, Cheryl Kennedy of Larimer County Search and Rescue of Colorado and NASAR K9 Certification Coordinator conducted 3 days worth of written and field tests.

NASAR Certifies Additional STAR 1 Ground Searchers
Release date: April 27, 2003

STAR 1 Search and Technical Rescue members hard work paid off this month when the team certified 11 new ground searchers under the auspices of the National Association of Search and Rescue's (NASAR) SARTECH II testing program at NASAR's first Iowa-based test. This brings the total NASAR certified SAR Tech II ground searchers in STAR 1 to a total of 16 individuals.

K9 Search Teams Sniffing for Funds

In March, STAR 1 conducted demonstrations, answered questions, sold baked goods and conducted a raffle to raise money to support the costs of their April and May certification tests with the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR).
